Interceptive Orthodontics

Interceptive orthodontics applies when prevention procedures fail and an alteration in the occlusion is detected during the mixed dentition period between 8 and 11 years old when primary teeth and permanent teeth coexist until all teeth are completely changed.

The ultimate goal is to restore normal occlusion before all permanent teeth have fully erupted. Intervening the malocclusion, we intercept and correct the positions of misaligned teeth or altered function. At this time of occlusal problems such as crossbite development, lack of space for normal eruption and certain problems in skeletal growth, such as mandibular prognathism, should be treated by the orthodontist placing active devices that correct the altered growth and they establish more favourable conditions for the future facial and occlusal conditions development.
